Ending

Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

The payoff for all that slow-burn Chloe-and-Derek tension finally lands, wrapped in a breakneck finale where a necromancer girl and her misfit supernaturals take down the corporation that made them.

Synopsis

Chloe Saunders is fifteen and would love to be normal. Unfortunately, Chloe happens to be a genetically engineered necromancer who can raise the dead without even trying. She and her equally gifted (or should that be 'cursed'?) friends are now running for their lives from the evil corporation that created them. As if that's not enough, Chloe is struggling with her feelings for Simon, a sweet-tempered sorcerer, and his brother Derek, a not so sweet-tempered werewolf. And she has a horrible feeling she's leaning towards the werewolf... Definitely not normal.

At a Glance

Armstrong writes action like she is directing a movie—tight cuts, real stakes, no filler. The Derek romance earns every beat because it has been simmering for two books, and when he finally lets his guard down it hits. Read this when you want YA urban fantasy that respects its readers and delivers a satisfying ending without hand-waving away the hard parts. The found family of misfits with dangerous powers gives major X-Men energy. Chloe is 15, so expectations should be calibrated accordingly—this is firmly YA with closed-door romance.

Spice Level 1

Spice StyleNot just how much spice, but what kind. Emotional intimacy? Explicit but vanilla? Plot-driven heat? Know your flavor.

Sweet first kiss energy — this is YA urban fantasy where the romance is all tension, hand-holding, and that first breathless kiss with Derek. No on-page intimacy beyond that.

Getting SteamyGentle kinks. Fun but nothing too crazy. The appetizer, so to speak.
