Welcome to MoodReads! These Terms of Service govern your use of our website (moodreads.app) and browser extension. By using MoodReads, you agree to these terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using MoodReads (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.
2. Description of Service
MoodReads provides:
- A browser extension that displays spice levels, tropes, and metadata on Goodreads book pages
- A web application for searching and filtering romantasy books by mood, tropes, and content
- Free tier access (limited lookups) and premium subscription options
3. User Accounts
3.1 Account Creation
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account
- You must provide accurate and current information
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
3.2 Account Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms of Service
- You abuse the Service (e.g., scraping, automated access, circumventing usage limits)
- You provide false information
- We are required to do so by law

4. Usage Limits and Subscriptions
4.1 Free Tier
- Free users are limited to 5 book lookups per day via the browser extension
- We reserve the right to modify free tier limits with notice
4.2 Premium Subscriptions
- Premium subscriptions are processed through LemonSqueezy
- Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as selected
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled
- You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account page
- Not satisfied? Get a full refund within 14 days of purchase
5. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract our database
- Circumvent usage limits or authentication mechanisms
- Resell or redistribute data from MoodReads
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Submit false or misleading information
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Our Content
- All book metadata, designs, logos, and trademarks are owned by MoodReads
- You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute our content without permission
- The MoodReads name and logo are trademarks of MoodReads
6.2 User Content
- You retain ownership of any content you submit (reviews, ratings, etc.)
- By submitting content, you grant us a license to use, display, and distribute it
7. Third-Party Services
- Our browser extension operates on Goodreads.com, which is owned by Amazon
- We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Goodreads or Amazon
- We use third-party services (LemonSqueezy, Supabase, SendGrid) governed by their own terms
8. Data and Privacy
Your use of MoodReads is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains:
- What data we collect
- How we use it
- How we protect it
By using MoodReads, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
9.1 No Warranty
MoodReads is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:
- That the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
- That all book data is 100% accurate (metadata is crowdsourced and curated)
- That the extension will work with all future Goodreads updates
9.2 Content Accuracy
- Spice levels and content warnings are subjective and may not reflect your personal experience
- We are not responsible for inaccurate or missing metadata
- You use book recommendations at your own discretion
9.3 Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- MoodReads is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months
- We are not responsible for third-party content or services
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold MoodReads harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting the updated Terms on this page with a new effective date
- Sending an email to registered users (for significant changes)
Your continued use of MoodReads after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to:
- Suspend or terminate the Service at any time
- Refuse service to anyone for any reason
- Modify or discontinue features without notice
Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of California.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
15. Entire Agreement
These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and MoodReads regarding the Service.
