Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

Belle refuses to play by the rules in hell itself - watching her outsmart literal demons with nothing but her wits is deeply satisfying

Synopsis

Belle Dame Sans Merci is a spectacular retelling of the Beauty and the Beast tale - but it's so much more than that. When Lucifer locks Belle away in a dungeon, instead of bowing down to him and getting Stockholm Syndrome, an intense rebellion is sparked within her. She vows to kill the Beast any way possible - and she has nothing to rely upon but her wits alone. Featuring witches, harpies, magic, monsters, Mephistopheles, sacrifices, and literary references, this dark fantasy is inspired by the Waterhouse painting and Keats poem of the same name.

At a Glance

Belle Dame Sans Merci drops Beauty and the Beast into a corporate hell with cubicles and gargoyles, then lets its heroine fight back. Belle is no willing prisoner - she schemes, rebels, and refuses every inch of the Stockholm Syndrome script. Drawn from the Keats poem and Waterhouse painting, Taylor weaves witches, harpies, Mephistopheles, and dark literary callbacks into something genuinely strange and original. For readers who want their fairy tale retellings with teeth.
