Melissa Cave's writing is genuinely beautiful—lush, thoughtful prose that earns every emotional beat. The expanded POV cast in book two gives the world so much more texture while keeping Remin and Ophele's marriage at the center. It reads cozy despite literal monsters roaming the land, largely because the protective ensemble cast wraps around you like a blanket. Give this one a rainy weekend and settle in—it's slow-paced but deeply rewarding.
