Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

The Little Mermaid retold with androids and heartbreak — Meyer follows the original Hans Christian Andersen ending, so bring tissues.

Synopsis

Note: this short story is also available in "Stars Above". The Little Android is a retelling of The Little Mermaid, set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles by New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer. When android Mech6.0 saves the life of a handsome hardware engineer, her body is destroyed and her mechanics discover a glitch in her programming. Androids aren’t meant to develop impractical reasoning or near-emotional responses…let alone fall in love.

At a Glance

Meyer takes the bones of The Little Mermaid and rebuilds them with circuits and chrome, and it works beautifully. Mech6.0 developing feelings she was never programmed for is genuinely moving, and Meyer doesn't take the easy Disney route — this follows the original Andersen tale to its devastating conclusion. It's a standalone companion that works even if you haven't read the main series, though Lunar Chronicles fans will appreciate the world-building texture. A gorgeous little heartbreak of a story.
