Synopsis

At a Glance

The final Graceling Realm book trades swashbuckling romance for something quieter and more haunting—a young queen untangling her dead fathers legacy of mind control and cruelty, one buried truth at a time. The romance with Saf is sweet but secondary to Bitterblues journey of reclaiming her kingdom and herself. Cashores world-building is dense and rewarding, with a remarkably queer cast (Saf is bisexual, multiple same-sex couples among the supporting characters) that feels effortless rather than performative. Best for readers who love political intrigue wrapped in emotional complexity. Heavy content warnings—Lecks abuse permeates the entire story even after his death.
