Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

A resort where guests literally live out classic rom-com scenarios is an absurd premise that somehow works beautifully - Johnson keeps the meta-humor sharp while making you genuinely root for Julia and Luke to find their real ending.

Synopsis

When impending layoffs threaten her job at a popular website, Julia Chen decides a story about the newly opened Notting Hill Resort - where guests can live out their rom-com fantasies complete with karaoke serenades, meet-cutes, and kisses in the rain - might be just the career save she needs. She plans to stay objective. That plan falls apart the moment a seagull attack lands her in the arms of Luke, an adorably awkward guest who seems to be falling for her just as fast. Except Luke has a few secrets of his own about this resort.

At a Glance

Julia is a journalist who goes undercover at a resort that lets guests live out their favorite rom-com movie scenarios - and promptly falls face-first (literally, via seagull) into a meet-cute with Luke, who is also not quite who he says he is. The whole book is a love letter to the genre: karaoke serenades, only-one-bed situations, and kisses in the rain, all played with knowing winks. Johnson keeps it genuinely funny without letting the concept swallow the story. Perfect summer reading with zero required effort.
