Synopsis
Elena Gilbert and her friends saved Fell's Church from evil spirits, but the town's freedom came at a price: Damon Salvatore's life. Now, with nothing standing in their way, Elena and Stefan can finally be together. So why can't Elena stop dreaming of Damon? As Elena's feelings for Damon grow, a new darkness is brewing in Fell's Church. Elena has been to hell and back, but this demon is like nothing she's ever seen. Its only goal is to kill Elena and everyone she loves.
The first book of The Hunters arc, and also the first Vampire Diaries novel L.J. Smith did not finish herself — after a publisher dispute, an anonymous ghostwriter took over, and longtime fans clocked the voice shift immediately. Elena is still grieving Damon when something darker than grief starts haunting Fell Church, and the plot leans harder on supernatural dread than on romance. This is 2011-era YA paranormal, not modern romantasy, so expect chaste tension and teen-coded stakes rather than spice. If you grew up with these characters, you will want to know what happens next, even knowing the byline is doing some heavy lifting.
