Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

Douglas Adams meets enemies-to-lovers romantasy — a cowardly bisexual knight throws himself at the mercy of the sorcerer who's supposed to kill him, and the chaos that ensues is equal parts hilarious and swoony.

At a Glance

If Terry Pratchett wrote a queer romance, it might read something like this. Sir Cameron is gloriously useless in battle but devastatingly effective at charm, seduction, and running away from danger. When a prophecy declares his death is the key to defeating the mad sorcerer Merulo, Cameron does the only logical thing — he asks Merulo for protection. What follows is a whip-smart deconstruction of fantasy tropes wrapped in genuine romantic tension, with Cameron discovering he's very into surly sorcerers who lock him up and tell him what to do. The humor lands consistently, the worldbuilding is inventive, and the relationship between Cameron and Merulo earns every beat of its slow-burn payoff.

Playful and character-driven — Cameron's sexual nature is central to his personality and power, with arousal played for humor as much as heat
