Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

A page-turning blend of supernatural intrigue and forbidden attraction that hooks you into the series.

Synopsis

Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out.... Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

At a Glance

The original paranormal romance queen, before vampires were sparkly and brooding became a personality type. Sookie is a small-town Louisiana telepath who can finally hear nothing when she is near a vampire—which is frankly a love story in itself. Harris writes the South with warmth and specificity, and the murder mystery threading through the romance gives the whole thing actual stakes (pun intended). The sex is on-page but written for 2001, so temper your expectations if you are coming off modern spice. This is where the True Blood obsession started, and it still holds up.
