Why Read This? The one-sentence sell. What do you get for showing up to this book, even when it's hard?

Rurik is the definition of reluctant devotion - he hates witches, he hates himself for wanting her, and watching that wall crack is deeply satisfying. The captive dynamic has real tension because Amalia is genuinely afraid before she is genuinely drawn to him. Opal Reyne commits to the monster romance element fully.

Synopsis

Amalia is a White Witch living in solitude, using her healing magic on injured animals. When she rescues a wounded creature during a storm, she has no idea it is Rurik - a feared dragon shifter known as the WitchSlayer, sworn to destroy the Dark Witch Strolguil. After her village discovers her magic and tries to burn her at the stake, Rurik saves her but takes her captive under Dragon Law. Despite his hatred for witches, Rurik finds himself drawn to her gentle nature, and Amalia begins to see the man beneath the beast.

At a Glance

Opal Reyne builds a monster love interest who earns every inch of the reader's trust. Rurik's hatred for witches makes his softening toward Amalia feel genuinely hard-won rather than inevitable. The captive-to-lovers arc has real bite because Amalia's fear is never glossed over. Full monster romance in the intimate scenes - if you're here for that, it delivers.
